Yes, you still need to register with Find a Home to be eligible to apply for the majority of our properties.
Anyone aged 16 or over can apply for social housing in Scotland.
Applying online is the quickest way to get registered, but you can still register if you don't have an email address. Give us a call on 03451 400 100 to discuss how we can help you if you cannot register online.
We try to assess all applications within five working days of receipt. At busy times, this can take a little longer.
In most cases, you can only express an interest or 'bid' for properties that are the same size as your household requires. For example, a couple with one child would only be able to bid for a two-bedroom home. If you think your entitlement has not been assessed correctly, or you are unable to bid for a property you think is the correct size for you, please call the Find a Home team on 03451 400 100.
We have a range of housing options designed to meet the needs of older people. For more information about please click here.
We give priority to people who register with us, depending on their current situation. We will ask you about your situation and assess your priority level when you apply.
Priority is awarded at the following levels:
• Priority level 1 Gold+
• Priority level 2 Gold
• Priority level 3 Silver+
• Priority level 4 Silver
• Priority level 5 Bronze+
• Priority level 6 Bronze
• Priority level 7 No priority
The level of priority you are entitled to will be assessed when you apply.
Documents can be uploaded to your account by logging in to you application here. Alternatively you can email documents to [email protected].
You do not need to pay a deposit for social rented properties. Rent is paid monthly in advance, so we do ask all tenants to pay one month's rent when they receive their keys and sign their tenancy agreement.
Yes, anyone aged 16 or over can apply for social housing. We do not take income into account.
You need to login to your account using the Login option in this site to express an interest in a specific property. This is also known as 'bidding' for a home. If you cannot bid online, you can give the Find a Home team a call on 03451 400 100 option 3.
All properties are advertised for a minimum of seven days.
There is no specific day when we advertise our properties. All properties are added to the site as soon as they become available, and are advertised for a minimum of seven days.
We recommend you set up property alerts to receive an email when a suitable property becomes available. To do this, login to your account and click on the 'property alerts' option.
No, our new build properties are advertised in the same way as all other properties when they are nearly ready to move into. We recommend setting up property alerts (see previous FAQ) so you don't miss them once they are advertised.
We also recommend you ensure you are registered with your local council, as a percentage of new builds may be allocated through council nominations.
You can see your position in the shortlist for a property by logging into your account at www.findahome.scot and clicking on 'my current bids' or 'my previous bids'.
If your bid position is 4, this means there are three people above you in the shortlist. This could be because they need that type of property more than you or because they have a higher priority. We would need to consider the three people above you first before we could consider you for an offer.
If you are being considered for a property, we will normally contact you within one week of the advert for the property closing. This can take longer for new build properties or at busy times. As a general rule, if you have not heard from us within two weeks of the closing date of the advert, you can assume your bid has not been successful.
Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we can only contact applicants who we are considering for a property.
The successful person is usually the applicant who makes best use of the property and who has the highest priority.
Best use is a term we use to describe the way we match applicants to a particular property type. For example, a wheelchair user would make best use of a wheelchair accessible property.
The level of priority someone is awarded depends on their situation. We award priority for a number of different situations.
You can find more detail about this in our Lettings Policy.
Yes, if you have been offered a property you will have the opportunity to view it before signing a tenancy agreement.
If we make you a written offer of a property, and you decide not to accept that property, this is classed as a refusal. If an applicant refuses two offers that we consider to be reasonable, we suspend their application for 12 months. During this time, they cannot bid for properties.
Applicants can appeal a suspension if they think they have a good reason to refuse a property.
