If we make you a written offer of a property, and you decide not to accept that property, this is classed as a refusal. If an applicant refuses two offers that we consider to be reasonable, we suspend their application for 12 months. During this time, they cannot bid for properties. 

Applicants can appeal a suspension if they think they have a good reason to refuse a property.

Yes, if you have been offered a property you will have the opportunity to view it before signing a tenancy agreement.

The successful person is usually the applicant who makes best use of the property and who has the highest priority.

Best use is a term we use to describe the way we match applicants to a particular property type. For example, a wheelchair user would make best use of a wheelchair accessible property. 

The level of priority someone is awarded depends on their situation. We award priority for a number of different situations.

If you are being considered for a property, we will normally contact you within one week of the advert for the property closing. This can take longer for new build properties or at busy times. As a general rule, if you have not heard from us within two weeks of the closing date of the advert, you can assume your bid has not been successful.

Please note that due to the volume of applications we receive, we can only contact applicants who we are considering for a property. 

If your bid position is 4, this means there are three people above you in the shortlist. This could be because they need that type of property more than you or because they have a higher priority. We would need to consider the three people above you first before we could consider you for an offer.

You can see your position in the shortlist for a property by logging into your account at www.findahome.scot and clicking on 'my current bids' or 'my previous bids'. 

No, our new build properties are advertised in the same way as all other properties when they are nearly ready to move into. We recommend setting up property alerts (see previous FAQ) so you don't miss them once they are advertised. 

We also recommend you ensure you are registered with your local council, as a percentage of new builds may be allocated through council nominations.

There is no specific day when we advertise our properties. All properties are added to the site as soon as they become available, and are advertised for a minimum of seven days. 

We recommend you set up property alerts to receive an email when a suitable property becomes available. To do this, login to your account and click on the 'property alerts' option.

You need to login to your account using the Login option in this site to express an interest in a specific property. This is also known as 'bidding' for a home. If you cannot bid online, you can give the Find a Home team a call on 03451 400 100 option 3.
